The Porsche 991, the seventh iteration of the Porsche 911 sports car, made its debut in 2011 as a successor to the 997. Representing a significant leap forward, the 991 was built on an entirely new platform, marking only the third such platform since the original 911's inception in 1963 (with the 996 of 1999 being the second). Equipped with a 3.4-liter boxer engine featuring direct fuel injection, the Carrera delivers a robust maximum power output of 350 PS (257 kW; 345 hp) at 7,400 rpm and torque of 390 N⋅m (288 lb⋅ft) at 5,600 rpm. Stepping up, the Carrera S boasts a 3.8-liter engine delivering a vigorous maximum power output of 400 PS (294 kW; 395 hp) at 7,400 rpm, coupled with torque of 440 N⋅m (325 lb⋅ft) at 5,600 rpm. In January 2014, Porsche unveiled the Targa 4 and Targa 4S variants, featuring an innovative roof technology that pays homage to the original targa design. This new system includes an electronically operated soft top, preserving the classic B-pillar and iconic glass 'dome' at the rear. Introduced in late 2012, the 991 Turbo houses a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-6 engine, churning out an impressive 520 PS (382 kW; 513 hp) and torque of 620 N⋅m (457 lb⋅ft). For the 2016 model year, the 991 underwent a mid-cycle facelift (internally referred to as 991.2). This update brought forth refreshed styling, including revised front and rear bumpers, updated dual exhaust pipes, and new head and tail lights. Additionally, the lineup received all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engines across the range, marking the first time that base 911 models were equipped with turbocharged engines.
