Porsche Backdate - The perfect fusion of Porsche classic, conversion and restoration

What does backdate actually mean? The term has been around in the Porsche scene for some time and the numerous Backdate conversions are not always recognizable as such at first glance. The topic has been very hot since Singer and the trend is constantly developing thanks to its great popularity. But let's start by explaining the terminology: when a backdate conversion is carried out on a Porsche, it means that it looks like a Porsche from an older model series after the conversion. This does not mean that the rust is simply painted, but rather that the Porsche is made to look like a new example of an older model.

  2. 1. The basis
  3. A Porsche Backdate project often begins with a classic Porsche model that has its roots in the 1980s or 1990s. These vehicles are not only automotive icons, but also the perfect canvas for what is yet to come. Typical conversions are the visual changes of a Porsche 964 or G-model back towards the F-model.

  5. 2. Body Backdate
  6. The Porsche F-Model has some clear design elements that were missing on subsequent models. These include the “long nose” bonnet, which lands directly on the typical F-model bumper. The bumper is also not fitted with rubbers on the sides as on the G-model, but is instead nestled neatly against the bodywork. The horn grilles, front indicators and headlights with chrome bezel are also elements that clearly stand for the F-model generation. For a Backdate conversion, a large proportion of the bodywork elements are removed, depending on the scope. If you want to enjoy the car for a long time, you should think carefully about whether individual components of the vehicle such as the body, engine, interior or the entire vehicle should also be restored during this conversion work.

  8. 3. Is Backdate also possible in the interior?
  9. Backdate measures are of course also possible in the interior. We offer a wide range of gear knob kits, both for 5- and 6-speed transmissions, as well as Singer-style dashboard trim kits with matching switch sets. Also 380mm sport steering wheels with the typical "hockey puck" horn button as in early F-models and even complete Singer-look smooth interior kits are in our range.
  10.
  11. 4. Is the Backdate conversion also carried out on the engine, chassis and brake system?
  12. Basically not. By definition, the engine and chassis remain unchanged during such a Backdate conversion, which only involves the visual modification of a Porsche 911. The subject of the engine, chassis, transmission and brake system is more of a restomod topic. However, we recommend checking the engine, gearbox, chassis and suspension in advance to avoid any surprises during the conversion period. Of course, we can also assist you with this and you will find a multitude of items in our shop.

  14. Conclusion: The charm of the Porsche Backdate
